The 300km Doha Metro will cover the Greater Doha area and will include connections to town centers and vital commercial and residential areas throughout the city. In central Doha, the metro will be underground, whilst at the outskirts; it will mainly be at ground level or elevated. It will consist of four lines – Red, Gold, Green and Blue – and will have 100 stations. The Red line will be the first to be developed and will run from New Doha International Airport to West Bay in central Doha. Qatar’s rail network must be built well before the 2022 World Cup commences, to enable adequate trial operations.
Yapı Merkezi and STFA won the tender of the senior line - “Gold Line” of the Qatar Doha Metro. Gold Line is going to be the biggest project of the Qatar’s 2022 World Cup investments with the amount of 4,4 Billion USD. With the signing ceremony which was held in Qatar in 23 April 2014; Yapı Merkezi and STFA clinched the biggest valued tender of Turkish contracting sector outside of Turkey.
The project is planned to be completed in 2018 and to achieve this goal, 6 Tunnel Boring Machines will be operated at the same time.
Joint venture of the project consists of Yapı Merkezi and STFA from Turkey, Aktor from Greece, Larsen Toubro from India and Al Jaber Engineering from Qatar. Yapı Merkezi and STFA are the leaders of the joint venture with 40% share.
Doha Metro is going to connect the city center, important trade areas and stadiums to each other. All the metro lines of the Doha, including the gold line are planned underground because of the city’s dense settlement areas.
