The wind test of the aeroelastic model, together with the decks and towers, of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, as the bridge with the longest centre span in the world, was carried out in China.
Wind tunnel test of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, of which the groundbreaking was held on March 18th, was attended by Cahit Turhan, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, and a delegation including the officers of Daelim-Limak-SK-Yapı Merkezi consortium, which was awarded for the tender of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge. The "Wind Tunnel Test" of the1915 Çanakkale Bridge was performed at the laboratories of the Southwest Jiatong University.
Expressing that an important step for the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is the performance of the wind tunnel tests, Cahit Turhan, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, stated the following:
"One of the major stages for the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is the wind tunnel test of this project. Three "Wind Tunnel Tests" were conducted for this project. The first test was performed in Canada and two other tests were performed in Denmark. Today we shall witness a wind tunnel test to be performed after 4 months of work. The data to be acquired as a result of the tests shall provide us important information for shaping this project."
The test was carried out at Southwest Jiatong University's laboratory, and testing for the behaviors of the towers and decks of the bridge under service conditions in a uniform and turbulent stream, at wind speeds of 20 meters per second, i.e. 72 km/h; 45.4 meters per second, i.e. 162 km/h; and 83 meters per second, i.e. 299 km/h.
